Best approach that works for us is to be chatty and friendly. We are the people at the bar talking to different people all the time, asking if people wanna do shots etc etc. We can usually tell pretty quickly if the people we are talking with are or aren't in lifestyle. Lifestylers are friendlier, more open to joking around, respond differently to compliments. Men seem less territorial and and women aren't as catty. Being proactive is probably the best approach.
